PR1SMA – TRAIL OF THE NORTH SHORE

This route starts in Feteiras de Baixo and finishe at Baía dos Anjos.
In trail pass over the Baia do Raposo, Ribeira do Engenho, Barreiro da Faneca e Baía da Cré, places with great geological interest and classified as Geosite.

PR2SMA – Pico Alto – Anjos

This route starts at the road of the Pico Alto forest and ends at Angels. climb up towards the Pico Alto ( 587m ), the highest peak of Santa Maria which is an excellent viewpoint from where one can see the whole island of Santa Maria, as well as the island of São Miguel when the visibility is good. We will pass through “Casa do Guarda”, Barreiro da Faneca or “Red Desert of the Azores” and Baía da Cré. This route crosses two protected areas. It is the responsibility of all of us contribute to their protection as well as ensuring its biodiversity by conserving this natural habitat.

PR3SMA – BETWEEN THE MOUNTAIN AND THE SEA

This trail begins and ends at the Church of the Parish of Santa Barbara. The route begins through Canada dos Atoleiros in a high slope road to the Arrebentão Place. We will visit Pedreira do Campo, Pico Vermelho, rural houses of Santa Maria, single viewpoints over the Bay of São Lourenço, Ponta do Norte, Sitio de Lagos, Covão da Mula and arrive back to the starting point.

PR4SMA: Santo Espírito – Maia

This route starts at the Parish of the Santo Espírito and ends at the abandoned Whale Hunting Factory at Ponta do Castelo. The trail begins near the Church of Santo Espírito towards a Traditional Windmill disabled. We continue by the Caminho da Lapa, Ribeira Grande, Aveiro Waterfall, Lugar da Maia and Gonçalo Velho Lighthouse. We can keep going to former whale processing factory or enjoy this quiet swim area.

PR5SMA – TRAIL OF THE SOUTH COAST

This small route begins at the Environmental Interpretation Center Dalberto Pombo, place where a vast collection of this naturalist is stored. Continue towards the Forte de São Brás and Ribeira de São Francisco, Pedreira do Campo (natural heritage), Gruta do Figueiral (Fossils Cave), Touril and Prainha.
After a relaxing swim we proceed to the Fort of Prainha and choose between climbing toward the viewpoint of Macela or follow the slope to the area of the Formosa beach where we can enjoy a relaxing beach of white sand.
